A convenient synthesis of 5-aryl-4,5-dihydro-2-methoxycarbonylamino-1-phenylimidazoles 5a-d and 2-methoxycarbonylamino-1-phenyl-1, 3-diazaspiro[4.4(5)]alk-2-enes 5e,f has been reported from N-alkylideneanilines 1a-f via cyclization of the corresponding 1,2-bis(methoxycarbonyl)-3-(2-anilinoalkyl)guanidines 4a-f.
