This review examines the chromium(II)-mediated coupling reaction of carbonyl compounds with unsaturated substrates. The so-called Nozaki-Hiyama reaction has become an useful and versatile tool in organic synthesis. Applications to several natural product syntheses have also demonstrated its effectiveness. 1. Introduction 2. The Reagent. Some Considerations 3. Coupling of Alkyl Halides 4. Synthesis of Allylic and Homoallylic Alcohols 5. Olefination of Aldehydes 6. Miscellaneous Reactions 7.
