Monoselenoacetals can be efficiently prepared from acetals by treatment with phenyl trimethylsilyl selenide in the presence of a catalytic amount of trimethylsilyl trifluoromethanesulfonate. This procedure also effects the transformation of acetyl glucoside into selenoglucoside.
