Electrochemical studies of α-alkoxygermanes and acylgermanes showed that germanium promotes the electron transfer from a β-situated oxygen atom. Preparative electrolysis of α-alkoxygermanes and acylgermanes resulted in facile cleavage of the C-Ge bond and the introduction of nucleophiles such as alcohols onto the carbon.
