Alkyl radicals add to chiral alkene 4 [(S)-3-phenyl-1-butene-1,1-dicarbonitrile] stereoselectively. anti-Isomers 5a-c are formed as the major products. This stereoinduction cannot be interpreted by the stability of the different conformers of alkene 4, but is rationalized by the Felkin-Anh model.
