A novel route to optically active substituted 2,5- dihydrofurans 2,7,11-13 and 2,5-dihydro-1H-pyrroles 5, respectively, from 3-ene-1,2-diol [e.g., (S,E)-5-benzyloxy-3-pentene-1,2-diol (1)] and 1-amino-3-en-2-ol [e.g., (S,E)-1-benzyloxy-carbonylamino-5-(p-methoxybenzyloxy)-3-penten-2-ol (4)] frameworks, has been developed through palladim(II)-promoted dehydroxylative heterocyclization processes.
