3-(o-Azidophenyl)isoxazoles (3) derived from o-azidobenzonitrile oxide and carbanions, on treatment with triphenylphosphine in toluene undergo cyclisation via an aza-Wittig reaction to 3,4-disubstituted isoxazolo [4,3-c]quinolines (5).
