Chiral (acyloxy)borane complex, obtained from 2-O-(2,6-diisopropoxybenzoyl)tartaric acid and tetrahydrofuranborane complex, promotes the aldol type reaction of ketene O-alkyl/aryl O-trimethylsilyl acetals with achiral aldehydes in a catalytic manner to furnish erythro ß-hydroxy esters with good to excellent chemical and optical yields.
