Treatment of N, N-disubstituted (trichlorovinyl)amines 1 with an equimolar mixture of butyllithium and lithium diorganoamides, prepared from the corresponding secondary amine and two equivalents of butyllithium, furnishes symmetrically and unsymmetrically substituted ethynylenediamines 4 (1,2-ethynediamines).
