The synthesis of a valuable key intermediate, 1-(2,3,4, 6-tetra-O;-acetyl-ß-D-glycopyranosyl)-3-ethoxycarbonyl-6, 7,8-trifluoro-4-quinolone, for the preparation of novel quinolone nucleosides is described starting from the reaction of ethyl 2-ethoxymethylene-3-oxo- 3-(2,3,4,5-tetrafluorophenyl) propanoate and 2,3,4,6-tetra-O;-acetyl-ß-D-glucopyranosylamine.
