N,N-Dialkylhydrazones derived from N,N-dimethylhydrazine or (S)-1-amino-2-methoxymethylpyrrolidine (SAMP) undergo facile oxidative cleavage to ketones (10 examples) on reaction with magnesium monoperoxyphthalate hexahydrate under mild conditions. The reaction is high yielding, chemoselective and proceeds without racemisation.
