Cyclic alkylthio- and arylthioimidates (ethyl 2-alkylthio(arylthio)-1-pyrroline-5-carboxylates) are effectively synthesized from ethyl 2-isocyanoalkenoates and primary thiols through the intramolecular addition of carbon-centered alkylthio- and arylthioimidoyl radicals to suitably positioned double bonds.
