1-Alkynyl phenyl sulfones are readily obtained by the in situ ß-elimination reaction of enol phosphates, which are generated by the reaction of 2-oxoalkyl phenyl sulfones with diethyl chlorophosphate in tetrahydrofuran in the presence of sodium hydride.
