Polyhydroxylated labdanes were converted into their O-isopropylidene and O-benzylidene derivatives by use of the anhydrous aluminum chloride/ether/acetone system. The structure of the minor metabolite of 7-deacetylforskolin (1) was elucidated as 18-hydroxy-7-deacetylforskolin (3).
