2-Alkenoic acids may be prepared in good yields from saturated aldehydes via α-selenenylation with 4-(phenylseleno)morpholine [benzeneseleno)morpholide] formed in situ, followed by hydrogen peroxide oxidation. The actual oxidizing agent is benzeneperseleninic acid which is formed in the reaction medium.
