Semicarbazones, hydrazones, oximes, and other nitrogenous derivatives of carbonyl compounds are readily oxidized by various oxidizing agents. In this review, emphasis is placed on the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds oxidative cyclization of carbonyl derivatives. A frequently used, convenient reagent for such oxidations is lead tetraacetate, but other oxidizing agents have also been employed.
