Empathy

Compassion is an essential virtue for all medical professionals. But empathy is so much more. Only then can we truly feel the hardships that our patient must endure. And if so, we will not stop until our intervention successfully relieves all the pain and suffering. The irony is that such a motivation is not altruistic; but rather in a sense selfish, as inevitably we too someday will be that patient and will seek that same empathy we once bestowed. Fear not empathy, and you will be rewarded.
