Teil 1 des Beitrags über Folat und Folsäure widmete sich den ernährungswissenschaftlichen Aspekten des Vitamins bzw. der synthetischen Vorstufe sowie seiner zentralen Funktion im Zellstoffwechsel und bei der Synthese der Amino- und Nukleinsäuren. Nun sollen mit Blick auf die aktuelle Studienlage einzelne medizinische Auswirkungen eines Folatmangels und deren Vorbeugung bzw. Therapie mit Folsäure-Supplementation betrachtet werden.
