Sir William Osler, kanadischer Mediziner und Autor des 1892 erschienenen Lehrbuches „The Principles of Practice of Medi­cine“ betrachtete die rheumatoide Arthritis ganz einfach als unheilbar: „Das Beste, das man erhoffen kann, ist, dass sie von selbst allmählich zum Stillstand kommt“ [1].
