The Guest Editors of this issue of Seminars in Neurology are Drs. Sung-Min Cho and Romergryko Geocadin.

Dr. Cho is Assistant Professor of Neurology, Neurosurgery, Anesthesia, and Critical Care Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His undergraduate training in physics took place at Yonsei University in South Korea, followed by a BS from the University of Cincinnati. He subsequently received his DO from Ohio University, and later his MHS from Johns Hopkins University. He completed his internship (internal medicine) and residency (neurology) at the Cleveland Clinic, followed by his fellowship (neurocritical care) at Johns Hopkins University, where he has stayed on as faculty. He is the Director of Adult ECMO research in the Division of Cardiac Surgery at Johns Hopkins. He is a very active and successful physician-scientist, already more than 100 peer-reviewed publications in his early career. He is clearly a rising star in the field of neurocritical care, with a particular passion for neurological complications in patients with cardiovascular disease. His efforts on this issue were herculean and profound, and I am indebted to him for his hard work and passion for the field.

Dr. Geocadin is Professor of Neurology, Anesthesia, Critical Care Medicine, and Neurological Surgery at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He received his BS in zoology from the University of the Philippines, followed by his MD from the University of the East-Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center College of Medicine, also in the Philippines. His internship (internal medicine) and residency (neurology) were at New York University, followed by a clinical and research fellowship in neurocritical care at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Geocadin is widely regarded as one of the leaders in neurocritical care, having served as President of the Neurocritical Care Society. He is a renowned researcher, with hundreds of high-impact publications in the field of neurocritical care. He was chair of the expert panel that published the Standards for Studies of Neurological Prognostication in Comatose Survivors of Cardiac Arrest: A Scientific Statement from the American Heart Association in 2019. At present, he cochairs a joint panel of the American Heart Association and Neurocritical Care Society that is developing a consensus statement focusing on the critical care management of post–cardiac arrest patients. He is also one of the global principal investigators (PIs) for the ICECAP study, a 50+ center study using an adaptive design for therapeutic hypothermia in cardiac arrest patients, which is jointly funded by NINDS and NHLBI.

We greatly appreciate the efforts of Drs. Cho and Geocadin, as well as all of the contributing authors, for their wonderful work in this issue of Seminars, which tackles an important but often overlooked aspect of neurology. I personally learned a great deal reading the manuscripts for this issue, and know that anyone who performs neurology consults will find this to be an invaluable resource, likely for many years to come. Many thanks to Drs. Cho and Geocadin for this marvelous contribution!
