It is with great pleasure that we introduce this issue of Facial Plastic Surgery, focusing on the Annual Conference of the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery (EAFPS) in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

This meeting marks the 40th anniversary of the EAFPS. Particularly on anniversaries like these, we become aware of the changes in our specialty. Facial plastic and reconstructive surgery (FPRS) has changed over the last decades. Where do we come from? What are the foremost changes in surgical techniques, philosophy, and outcome? Where are we going in the next decade? In this issue of Facial Plastic Surgery as well as during the meeting in Amsterdam, we would like to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the EAFPS by focusing on “the past, present, and future of FPRS.”

The past, present, and future of FPRS will be the central theme for 3 days in September, when the world's top facial plastic surgeons, plastic surgeons, maxillofacial surgeons, oculoplastic surgeons, and cosmetic dermatologists will gather together in Amsterdam to discuss the latest techniques, philosophies, and research in FPRS.

We are honored to include some of these world-renowned colleagues in this issue of Facial Plastic Surgery. Each author will discuss their philosophy on the history, current medical practice, and future on a particular subspecialty of FPRS. This collection of articles will focus on blepharoplasty, facelift surgery, auricular reconstruction, rhinoplasty, regenerative facial plastic surgery, oncodermatology, and rejuvenation of the skin. We are obliged to these authors as well as to all of the speakers from around the world who will participate in the conference in Amsterdam. As facial plastic surgeons, we are bound by the desire to continuously learn and teach to perform the highest quality care for our patients.

We hope you enjoy this issue of Facial Plastic Surgery, and looking forward to seeing all of you at the EAFPS Annual meeting in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, September 18 to 21, 2019.
