Die Staupe des Hundes tritt nach wie vor auf, wie ein Staupeausbruch bei einem Wurf Mischlingswelpen in Leipzig zeigt. Aufgrund des hohen Ansteckungspotenzials ist eine schnelle Diagnose wichtig, sie stellt jedoch wegen der oft unspezifischen Symptomatik und der schwierigen Differenzierbarkeit von Impf- und Feldvirus eine Herausforderung dar. Die quantitative Polymerase-Kettenreaktion (PCR) kann dabei hilfreich sein.
