Flavone C- and/or O-glycosides from corn silk
Corn silk, style of Zea mays (Maize), has been traditionally used in the treatment of urinary problems, such as kidney stones, urinary tract infections and nephritis. Phytochemical investigation of methanol extract of corn silk resulted in the isolation of three C-glycosyl flavones, two C- and O-glycosyl flavones, four steroids and a pentacyclic triterpenoid. Among the isolates a C- and O-glycosyl flavone was found to be new. Structure elucidation was accomplished by spectroscopic data analyses including 1D and 2D NMR and ESI-MS.
