The stem bark of I. burmanicum is used in folk medicine for treating rheumatoid arthritis. A number of prenylated, modified phenylpropanoids, including seven new compounds, were isolated from the stem bark of I. burmanicum Wils. (Illiciaceae), which is distributed in the forests as high as 1800 – 2000 meters in the Yunnan province of China. Structures of the compounds were elucidated by NMR and MS spectroscopic data analyses.
