Zygophyllum aegytpium (Zygophyllaceae) is a perennial, woody undershrub with evergreen

succulent leaves. This species is distributed in the Mediterranean region of Egypt, Tunisia and Cyprus. The powdered aerial parts of the plant were extracted with methanol. The crude extract did not show any antimicrobial, antimalarial or anti-leishmanial activity. Eight triterpenoidal saponins and two phenolic compounds were isolated from the methanol extract. The structure elucidation was performed using spectroscopic methods including 1D and 2D NMR and ESI-MS spectroscopic data.
