Abstract

The concept of the sentinel lymph node gains increasing importance to stratify patients for appropriate surgery in cancer. The great relevance is judged by many studies and attention has been paid to this subject by editorials in the major medical journals since early publications [7] [10]. This method is an established part of clinical routine procedures and clinical guidelines in the treatment of breast cancer and of malignant melanoma. Since there are significant differences in practice related to almost all aspects of the technology involved, this paper summarizes the current situation of SLN diagnostics in carcinoma of the breast and other gynaecological tumors.
