Summary
Green tea is a beverage with many interesting compounds which may positively affect health. Preclinical investigations have shown effects with relevance to cancer incidence. Numerous studies revealed evidence for these preventive effects in various tumor entities, among those also breast cancer. Meanwhile there are meta-analyses on primary and tertiary prevention. Since green tea also exerts positive effects on glucose and fat metabolism and rarely leads to significant side effects, green tea may be considered to be one of the most interesting substances in the complementary treatment of breast cancer. Thus it clearly deserves more intensive scientific investigation but since evidence is much better compared to other complementary methods it may be recommended to patients who ask for additional treatment options.
