Zusammenfassung

Die 2009 veröffentlichte SELECT-Studie schien die Hoffnung zu zerstören, Selen könne chemopräventiv das Risiko für Prostatakrebs erniedrigen. Genaue Analysen zeigten jedoch die Schwäche der Studie auf. Eine neue Nachauswertung sorgt nun für Unsicherheit, doch die Publikation kann die Schwächen der Studie nicht kompensieren und zeigt in einer korrekten Auswertung auch keine signifikanten Ergebnisse. Nur in einigen a-posteriori-Berechnungen zeigten sich signifikante Ergebnisse, dies entspricht aber nicht den GCP-Richtlinien.

Summary

The 2009 publication of the results of the SELECT cancer prevention trial seemed to destroy all hopes that selenium as a chemopreventive supplement could lower the risk for prostate cancer. After analysis of the study results in detail the weaknesses of this trial became clear. Now a new publication has been published, seemingly adding new arguments, but this re-analysis suffers from the same restrictions like the first. Moreover, the only significant results have been found in a-posteriori calculations which does not comply with GCP guidelines.
