Cissus quadrangularis L. (CQ) is a traditional medicinal plant of Southeast Asia [1]. Although many CQ products have been sold as a dietary supplement [2], the active marker compound has never been indicated and standardized. From our previous data, the CQ hexane extract possessed antiosteoporotic effect in ovariectomized mice model [3]. In this study, the hexane extract was investigated for active compounds using bone cell culture technique as bioassay-guided isolation. The major compounds in both active and non-active fractions were determined. These isolated compounds will be useful not only for further related study, but also for quality control of CQ raw materials and products.
