Palliativmedizin und medikamentöse Therapie in der Sterbephase

Zusammenfassung

Die moderne Palliativmedizin geht in ihren Grundzügen auf die englische Krankenschwester und spätere Ärztin Dame Cicely Mary Strode Saunders zurück. Unter Palliativmedizin versteht man die multimodaltherapeutische Begleitung eines Patienten, bei dem eine kurative Behandlung nicht sinnvoll erscheint oder nicht zum gewünschten Erfolg geführt hat. In diesem Artikel wird ein Überblick über die Palliativmedizin im Allgemeinen und die erweiterte medikamentöse Therapie im Speziellen, insbesondere in der Sterbephase, geben.

Abstract

The idea of modern palliative care goes back to the times of Dame Cicely Mary Strode Saunders in 1967, a British nurse and physician. Modern palliative care is a multimodal therapeutic and supportive concept for the patient, when curative care has failed or seems to be not reasonable. In this article we review the basics of current palliative care and focus in particular on specific medicamentous therapy during the final episode of life.
