Phytopharmaka - wie ist ihr Stellenwert in stationären Pflegeeinrichtungen?

Zusammenfassung

Die Bewohner von stationären Pflegeeinrichtungen sind in der Regel auf eine intensive Arzneimitteltherapie angewiesen. Die zugrundliegenden gesundheitlichen und funktionellen Einschränkungen erhöhen gleichzeitig das Risiko unerwünschter Arzneimittelwirkungen. Verschiedene pflanzliche Arzneimittel weisen ein wesentlich günstigeres Sicherheitsprofil als chemisch-synthetische Wirkstoffe auf und sollten im Einzelfall als Behandlungsoption erwogen werden. In diesem Artikel werden insbesondere Mittel zur Behandlung von funktionellen Störungen des Magen-Darm-Trakts und von Schlafstörungen als prominente Beispiele dargestellt und diskutiert.

Summary

The significance of phytopharmaceuticals in residential nursing facilities

Clients of residential nursing homes are generally dependent on intensive medical therapy. However, the underlying health and functional limitations increase the risk of adverse drug effects. Several phytopharmaceuticals have a much more favourable safety profile than synthetic chemical drugs, and should be considered in individual cases as a treatment alternative. This article discusses in particular the treatment of functional disorders of the gastrointestinal tract as well as sleep disorders as prominent examples for consideration in well-established phytotherapy treatment.
