Significance

The authors describe the first copper-catalyzed method for the synthesis of β-trifluoroborato carbonyl compounds using tetrahydroxydiborane (bisboronic acid) as a source of boron. Various primary, secondary, and tertiary α,β-unsaturated amides as well as α,β-unsaturated esters and ketones are converted into the corresponding β-borated compounds in high yields.
