Cochlear Implants in Single-Sided Deafness and Tinnitus

ABSTRACT

For patients with single-sided deafness and troublesome tinnitus, the possibility of cochlear implantation holds a prospect of addressing both hearing and tinnitus handicap, even in the presence of normal contralateral hearing. Studies in Europe are investigating this, and evidence is emerging. Patients with a cochlear implant in one ear and normal hearing in the better ear provide an important opportunity to investigate cochlear frequency-place pitch maps.
