Summary

Evidence from two randomized controlled trials suggests a marked increase in the need for reoperation in those receiving ORIF compared with arthrodesis, with a risk increase of approximately 300%. Anatomic reduction was achieved initially by either method, and no definitive conclusions can be made about a preference in terms of functional outcomes although they appear to be better for arthrodesis, or regarding pain.
