Extracts of Luo Han Guo has been commercially utilized as a sweet component in sugar substitutes [1]. Mogroside V, the major component of the extract, was demonstrated to have a sweetness more than 300 times as high as that of sucrose [2]. This study was performed to investigate and identify the other chemical constituents present in commercial extracts of Luo Han Guo.

Fig.1: Dehydrodiconiferyl Alcohol 4-O-β-Glucopyranoside

Seven compounds were isolated by column chromatography; six of them were identified as Mogroside V, 11-Oxo-mogroside V, Grosmomoside I, Siamenoside I, Mogroside III E, and Dehydrodiconiferyl Alcohol 4-O-β-Glucopyranoside. Dehydrodiconiferyl Alcohol 4-O-β-Glucopyranoside was found for the first time in Luo Han Guo.
