Significance

The authors report an asymmetric sp³ C-H functionalization reaction via an intra­molecular 1,5-hydride transfer-ring-closure sequence, using chiral phosphoric acids as catalyst. N,N-Dibenzyl substrates 1 underwent a smooth internal redox process, affording various tetrahy­droquinoline derivatives 2 in high yields and good to excellent enantioselectivities.
