Significance

The high interest in π-conjugated materials for use in new devices applies especially to those with novel molecular topologies. While linear oligothiophenes have been widely studied for enhanced properties, oligothiophenes possessing unique three-dimensional (3D) structures are of particular interest in this regard. Here, the authors present the new spiro oligothiophenes 1 and 2 composed of an all-thiophene/dihydro-thiophene structure.
