Introduction
Very high quality clinical and translational research has been presented at the Digestive Disease Week (DDW) 2010 in New Orleans (1 – 5 May, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA). Here, a selection of the 16 best abstracts presented from the upper gastrointestinal field are briefly reviewed, with focus on Barrett’s esophagus and reflux-related diseases. In selecting the abstracts specific relevance has been given to the following three elements: the impact of studies on daily clinical practice; their contribution to the understanding of the natural history of diseases; and the translational potential to introduce new diagnostic tools.
