Stilbenoids constituents in Welwitshia mirabilis 2
Welwitschia mirabilis is an endangered and unique gymnosperm of Namib Desert of South West Africa. It is a monotypic member of the Genus Wellwitschia. In our previous work we have reported the isolated and identification of sevaral stilbenoids from a cultivated W. Mirabilis. In the present study we report the isolation and structure elucidation of five new stilbene derivatives including the first incidence of a stilbene pentamer from the family. The structures of the new compounds were assigned by spectroscopic analysis. The apoptotic activities of the stilbenoids were also investigated.1
