Venous collateral circulation following occlusion of the inferior vena cava by tumours shown by oil emboli in the liver after lymphographyPublikationsverlauf

Vorweisung entsprechender Beobachtungen.
Summary
Connection exist between the lymphatic vessels and veins in the lower abdomen. A collateral circulation may take place a) through the vertebral plexus to the azygos system, and b) through the haemorrhoidal plexus and the inferior mesenteric vein to the portal system. This explains the mechanism causing oil emboli in the liver after lymphography of the lower extremities. The lympho-venous shunt causing hepatic filling cannot be localised in type a, but is situated in the pelvis in type b. Examples are used to illustrate this.
