Urography using high doses of contrast by rapid injection or as infusion urography. Diagnostic value and frequency of complicationsPublication History

Summary
The value of certain modifications in the technique of urograms and their complications were compared on the basis of 825 examinations. These were: conventional urography using 20 ml. Conray 400, rapid injection of 50 or 100 ml. Conray 300 or infusion of 250 ml. Isopaque. Although the frequency of complications increases slightly with higher contrast doses and costs are higher, we would nevertheless recommend the use of high doses for routine use because of improved diagnostic information. In the presence of normal renal function, rapid injection of 0.4 g. I/kg. body weight is recommended. If renal function is reduced or compression cannot be used, we recommend a minimum of 0.5 g. I/kg. body weight by infusion.
