Significance

Directed ortho-C-H borylation of benzoate esters with B2(pin)2 catalyzed by iridium complexes consistent of commercially available [Ir(cod)(OMe)]2 and P[3,5-(F3C)2C6H3]3 gives the corresponding aromatic boronic esters in high yield and excellent regioselectivity, opening a route to a variety of ortho-substituted benzoylated derivatives.
