Significance

Polyaromatic chains, such as pentacene, heptacene, and their derivatives, have been extensively investigated for applications in various organic electronic devices. Such linear polyaromatic oligomers, however, often display limited stability and solubility. The authors report regiocontrolled syntheses of ribbon-type polyaromatic oligomers consisting of ethene-bridged para-phenylene backbone. These molecules and their derivatives are a promising class of molecules for organic electronic applications.
