Significance

The group’s earlier work demonstrated the synthesis of chiral silanols through a desymmetrizing substitution of dialkoxysilanes (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2008, 130, 16132). In this report, these products are further manipulated to yield chiral α-silylcarboxylates with retention of stereochemical information. These silyl building blocks are potentially useful in biological applications and as chiral synthetic handles.
