Significance
Efficient hydrogen storage plays a crucial role in fuel cell applications. The authors reacted different diamines (1-3) with salicylaldehyde derivatives (4-6) and nickel acetate to obtain nickel salphen containing molecules. These molecules were then tested with respect to their hydrogen adsorption properties. The most successful structure (7) was found to store 1.1 weight% H2.
