Significance

Deprotonative dimerization of arenes using oxygen as terminal oxidant represents a new, interesting, and synthetically useful way for the preparation of symmetric functionalized biaryls and less available heterobiaryls like bipyrazines and bitriazoles. The reaction protocol is very simple and practical.
