Significance
A polymer-supported hypervalent iodine reagent, poly[4-diacetoxyiodo]styrene (PDAIS), was used for the synthesis of benzimi-dazoles, benzoxazoles and benzothiazoles. Thus, the coupling reaction of anilines 1 with aldehydes 2 in the presence of PDAIS gave the corresponding heterocyclic products 3 in up to 85% yield (29 examples). Various substituted anilines 1 were tolerated for the reaction.
