Significance
Alkenyl sulfonates are important building blocks in synthetic chemistry, especially as electrophiles in cross-coupling reactions. The authors developed a new gold-catalyzed addition of sulfonic acids to alkynes to provide alkenyl sulfonates. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions with high regio- and stereoselectivity.
