Significance

A magnetically active nano[Fe3O4]/[Ru(OH)]x catalyst was prepared and applied to the hydration of nitriles. Thus, the nanoparticle-supported ruthenium hydroxide catalyst was prepared by sonicating nanoferrites with dopamine in water followed by adding RuCl3 under basic conditions. The hydration of nitriles (1 mmol) was performed with nano[Fe3O4]/[Ru(OH)]x (0.003 mol% Ru) in water under microwave irradiation to give the corresponding amides (61-88%, 11 examples).
