Development of a combined therapy-system consisting of an ergometer and a magnetic stimulator for rehabilitation of patients with hemiplegia and who are unable to stand and walk

  • Conception and development of the overall control-algorithms for the ergometer and the magnetic stimulator system

  • Software-implementation of the control-algorithms and the user-interface on the PC for the control of the cycling and diverse measurement procedures.

  • Measurement of isometric forces and pain-sensation under magnetic stimulation by using a torque-sensor.

  • Ergometric power measurements using 1–4 magnetic coils. Proving the efficacy of the proposed therapy-system performing ergo-spirometric and EMG measurements.

The overall control-algorithms and user-interface are components of the prototype which will be developed. The prototype ergometer/magnetic stimulator system will be provided either as a PC or a stand alone version with embedded processor. Measurement data obtained in this project will be published. The data are to prove the efficacy of peripheric magnetic stimulation in functional applications. Applications will be made for patents to protect the principle of combined therapy and also for the technical realisation of the stimulator and coils.
